Like all self-help support groups, they are facilitated by a member of a given group's community for the mutual benefit of people looking for additional ways to enhance their mental health and recovery. This list is posted for the convenience of people seeking a self-help group, but is not a substitute for professional advice.
DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR SUPPORT GROUPS IN CT
FARMINGTON – Wednesdays, 7 – 9 p.m., UCONN Health Center, 263 Farmington Avenue (Use hospital entrance- Ask for room number at front desk). 1st Wednesday of every month is open to family and friends.
NORWICH – Saturdays, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., William W. Backus Hospital, Medical Building, 326 Washington Street, Norwich, go into the lobby, down the hall, last door on the right, Suite 130; parking in the lot or across the street
ORANGE – 2nd and 4th Mondays, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, 780 Grassy Hill Rd.
STAMFORD - Wednesdays, 1-2 p.m., Mental Health Association, 1480 Bedford St., second floor.
WEST HARTFORD – Fridays, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, those wishing to contact the group facilitator may email Dan at FridaysGroup@juno.com This group resumed on September 16. People who have never attended this group before are encouraged to attend a Tuesday NAMI meeting at 6:30 p.m. before attending this one. ANXIETY SUPPORT GROUPS
(For people with generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social and other phobias)
WEST HARTFORD – Thursdays, 7 – 9 p.m., Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard in the Fireside Lounge
GENERAL MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUPS
(For people with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and relationship problems)
WATERBURY – Every 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th Tuesdays - 6 - 7:30 P.M., Russell Place, Northwest Regional Mental Health Board Conference Room, 969 West Main St., Waterbury, 1st floor. Open to people with any mental health disorder. Meetings are cancelled when Waterbury schools close due to inclement weather. (2nd Tuesdays of every month are skipped.)
WEST HARTFORD – Tuesdays, 7 – 8:30 p.m., First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 South Main St. in the Fireside Room on the second floor.
SCHIZOPHRENIA SUPPORT GROUPS
(Schizophrenics Anonymous, a six-step recovery program)
ANSONIA – Tuesdays, 2 – 3:00 p.m., Valley Mental Health Center/Birmingham Group Services, 435 East Main St.
