Supported Employment
If the Boss is stressed, everybody’s stressed.Our Supported Employment program – CHOICES -- creates happy bosses and happy employees. Started in Waterbury some twenty years ago, we’ve assisted able and willing workers to take on a variety of retail, customer service, hospitality and manufacturing positions in the community.
Helping someone return to work involves finding out what they need to succeed. Some clients need assistance in choosing the job or career path that best fits their skills and interests. Others need our counselors to help with find the openings and getting hired. Still others might need support after they get the job so that they keep it for as long as they need to.
Recently, our Choices program expanded to the West Hartford area where we are assisting clients who are Deaf and hearing impaired.
“When I first started as a consumer of MHAC services,” wrote one client recently, “I was insecure, cautious and maybe a bit frightened. Choices worked with me at my pace giving me the tools and confidence to believe I could re enter the work force. Today I am an employee… Choices provides a bridge between the stigma of mental illness to a life of purpose, acceptance and bolstered self esteem.”
